It can be done but it is recommended that you get it coated before the machine work. There was a thread a while back where this same question came up and king shelly and pbtp did a ton of research for us and found out that powder coating does not have any more insulating properties than regular paint it does insulate some but just as much as wet paint which is very miniscule.

Jump to latest follow 1 7 of 7 posts. I can show you a picture of a coated block and a painted one and they look pretty much the same. There is no benefit to powdercoating your block or anything for that matter unless you re in a production environment.

Pc an engine block. Powder coating the engine block. Please be aware that some powder coaters aren t interested in doing engine parts as most are porous castings that hold oil and rewen the final finish or the parts are heavy solid items that take hours of oven time to get to curing temperature.
